Alton Brown

After spending much of his childhood in the kitchen with his mother and grandmother, cooking began to come natural to Alton Brown. Alton Crawford Brown is a famous American who is best known as a big name culinary specialist and television personality. He began his career with vocation for film creations and cinematography and continued on this path for about 10 years. After spending much of his free time watching cooking shows his adoration of culinary craftsmanship ultimately took control of himself so he sought to end up a gourmet specialist on TV. After starting from the bottom and not knowing much about television cooking, Alton Brown is now known as one of the best known cooks on TV.

Alton Brown was born on July 30, 1962 in California but then later moved with his parents back to their home state of Georgia. After Brown’s father passed away he made a strong bond with his mother and grandmother, specifically in the kitchen where they made many meals together. After high school, Brown attended LaGrange College in LaGrange and majored in business. Then in the early 1980’s Brown transferred to the University of Georgia and studied the art of filmmaking. Throughout his college and filmmaking career, Alton Brown spent a lot of his down time learning how to cook and he quickly became fascinated. He is said to have used these skills he learned in the kitchen to “get dates”. After about ten years in the filmmaking career, Brown decided to head in a new and interesting direction. After discussing with his wife DeAnna, They both decided to create a new cooking show, one that would combine knowledgeable insight and humor.

In order for Alton and wife to create this show they headed north where Alton would study cooking at the New England Culinary Institute. After completing this program in 1997, he started to begin the process of putting together his show. Alton would write and host the show and his wife DeAnna would produce it. After starting on a small network in Chicago, the Food Network realized the shows potential. Premiering in 1999, the small show they named “Good Eats” soon became one of the most popular cooking shows on TV. The success of the show was mainly in part of the humor and personality Alton used to bring the show to life. The success of Alton’s show gave him the resources to write his first book in 2002. “I’m just here for the food”, was written similar to his show and in 2003 and won the James Beard Foundation Award for Best Cookbook in the
