INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

INTRODUCTION

The newly elected president of the Philippines, President Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte, has been managing and leading our country for about 100 days and further. According to sources, there are about 100 thousand criminals that have surrendered to the “oplan tokhang” members to rehabilitate to their addiction.

There are people that are in favor of his management style and there are those that are not. He was just elected to be president in the last 4 months but there are a lot of changes made in the Philippines. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte, who was propelled into the global spotlight with his brutal call to kill drug dealers and traffickers, has managed to offend pretty much everyone since. From his views on the South China Sea dispute to calling US President Barack Obama a name he’d rather forget, The Punisher has earned himself a reputation for not being backward about coming forward. Duterte was elected President in May in a landslide victory, promising to kill 100,000 criminals within six months of taking power. His views and comments are considered extreme by many in the west but the outspoken leader insists his tough approach to crime and zero tolerance on drugs is working.

According to President Duterte, “if the country is all in good shape as my vision sees it within 3 years of my presidential term; I will resign as being the president”

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

This study is conducted in order to show awareness and information about the management style of President Duterte. It will reveal the reactions of the people towards his style of management in the Philippines.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION OF THE STUDY

This study was conducted to know the preferred management of the students. The researchers’ respondents are 25 selected high school students despite the difficulties of the researchers, having the thesis deleted in an unexpected matter.

The researchers conducted the questionnaires in the boys department of Al Taj International School.

The figure above shows the possible management styles of President Duterte, the perception of the male students towards it, and their reactions and recommendations on the management style of President Duterte.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study aims to show how many are in favor of President Duterte’s management and leadership style of presidency.

Specifically, this study will answer the following questions:

  1. What is the preferred management style of the respondents?
  2. What kind of the management style do the people think President Duterte implemented in the Philippines?
  3. What do the people think about the changes that could happen in the country?
  4. How many of the respondents are not in favor of President Duterte’s management style?

HYPOTHESIS

1. HN: Most of the respondents are in favor of President Duterte’s management style.

1. HO: Most of the respondents are not in favor of President Duterte’s management style.

2. The people will be aware of how President Duterte handles the country.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

This study will benefit not only the students but also the staffs of a school that are affected by this issue.

Students. This study will benefit the students by making them aware of the effects of the management system of President Duterte.

Teachers. This study will benefit the teachers by informing them on how they should react on the effects of the management style of President Duterte.

Future Researchers. This study will benefit the future researchers by giving them a reference if ever they will study the same topic as the researcher did.

Administration. This study will benefit the administration of a school by informing them on how they should handle their students and teachers in order for them to react properly on the effects of the management of President Duterte.

DEFINITION OF TERMS

The researcher will provide the following terms together with their meaning in order to understand clearly what the study is all about.

Leadership. The action of leading a group of people or an organization.

Management. The process of dealing with or controlling things or people.

Age. It refers to the length of time a person or thing has lives or existed.

Gender. It refers to the sum of characteristics structures and functions by which an animal or plant is classed as male or female.
