Feral Child Review

This video was very hard to watch. To start with, I had just watched a documentary of the concentration camps of World War II and was emotionally down. When I came into class I was hoping for something upbeat but, I appreciated the video. It was also emotionally draining. I found it hard to comprehend the cruelty of the parents. I think that Jeanie’s parents were the worst. How could they torture her for thirteen years? It was depressing to see. It was so wonderful to see how happy she seemed when the doctors were working with her. She was a beautiful child and hard to fathom the cruelties and tortures that she overcame. Just when it was looking good for her the courts screwed up. How in the world could they think it would be a good idea for her to live in that house with her mother again? It was devastating to even think about the torture. And then to have her mother bring charges against the doctors when they were trying to help Jeanie after all that she had done was horrible. I think that one of the worst parts was that the courts actually agreed with the mother. I just thought “How could they?” It was also hard to take in Oxana’s story. Even if her mother wanted to have a boy, how could she through her child in a kennel with the dogs? How can someone be that cruel and indifferent? It was amazing to see the progress that she made and to also see what she could revert back to at any time. It is so sad to think that animals cared for her more that her mother did. Edict’s story was also very touching but a little confusing to me. I understand that his mother was a drunk but didn’t see how she abandoned him. I must have missed that part. It was also confusing that the mayor and police force would deny his story. I understand that they don’t want bad publicity but what difference would it really make? It really showed me the corruption of human society.
