“Why is it that, as a culture, we are more comfortable seeing two men holding guns than holding hands?” For decades and decades and still even in the present, the term ‘marriage’ has been only a heterosexual term through legislation and most religions. However past traditions are changing especially with marriage. Whether or not Same sex marriage should be legal has become a big debate for Canada and the U.S. Religions should not be the reason why homosexuals cannot marry. Socially they should be accepted and not discriminated against, for they are humans to. Legally homosexual couples should have the right to marry and share their love. Same sex marriage should be legal and accepted everywhere.

By definition same sex marriage is marriage between two homosexuals. It has been unaccepted and illegal for many years. People are now stepping up and fighting against this, they believe that homosexuals should have the same rights as a heterosexual. As of right now December, 11, 2006 same sex marriage is legal in all of Canada, and in some states. However it is still not accepted in all of Canada, and it is most definitely not legal everywhere. This essay will explain religious, social and legal reasons to why same sex marriage should be accepted and legal everywhere.

Religion is a very traditional thing especially Catholicism, members of this group follow the bible which has been written decades ago. There are many things that this certain religion does not agree with in our society, for example abortion, contraceptives, and divorce. All three of these things are legal in Canada and the U.S. despite the fact that some religions are against it. By this being said, the bible has absolutely no standing on Canadian or American law. No one has the right to impose rules on anyone else, simply because of something they perceive to be a moral injunction mandated by the Bible.
