Summary: A report from AV-Comparatives (http://www.av-comparatives.org/) compared the performance of two Microsoft machines: one that had a security suite installed and one that did not. The topics chosen by AV-Comparatives, in order to analyze the overall performance were: copying files from one drive to another, zipping and unzipping folders, downloading data from the internet and launching applications. The bottom line of this article shows that, for the most part, computers that have replaced Windows Defender with a different security suite have shown much better performance than computers with no security suites installed or computers running only Windows Defender as the anti-virus option.
My impressions: The reason why I chose this article to work with, is because working at Symantec, I had a close view and hands-on experience with security software and how it can positively (sometimes negatively, unfortunately) impact computer performance, especially in the business world.
In the last few years, many scandals involving security breach have been brought to public knowledge. People seem to be more and more concerned about their information security. But to what extent are they really concerned?
