Essay title: Adoption of the Heart

Adoption for the Heart

Adopting a child has always been something I wanted to do every since I was fifteen. I experienced an adoption when a tragic incident happened with a friend of mine, and she became pregnant. She made the decision to give up the child for adoption and found an adoption agency to help her. I believe her giving her child up for adoption was a brave decision, and the right one. The adoption was a great idea because a family who wanted a child was given a child. Her child was adopted into a solid home, where a family would love and cherish him. She gave birth to a baby boy and he has the opportunity to have a wonderful life. I know many neighbors and friends that have adopted children, from the Untied States and from other countries. Families I have seen thus far are extremely happy with the children they adopted; I can see the joy in their faces. It makes me happy to see the ease that a lot of families have with the child. The Buffinga family down the street adopted an African girl, through an agency in Baltimore. They went through a house evaluation, over a period of months before they were approved. Mikilia was adopted from Nigeria when she was three or four. Zoey and Marshell were adopted by the Pattersons’ next door from South Korea. China. The Pattersons, had been trying for about six years to have their own child, but was unable, so they went to an adoption agency named of Adoption of the Heart. Mrs. Patterson said it was a great experience. Adopting overseas has become a huge thing across America in the last couple of years. The laws have changed drastically concerning adoption; I need to know these laws in order to understand adopting a child better. I want to adopt overseas because many of these children do not have parents to love and take care of them and are often abandoned or orphaned. Many are as young as three with out a parent or loved one taking care of them and have to fend for themselves. I would like to bring a child from across the world to my home and show them love. I have seen many children who are over all happy with there adoptive family, but there are problems the older they get. I would like to bring a child from across the world to my home and show them love.

I know that being approved for adoption is a long and grueling process. There are strict laws regarding adopting internationally. Adopted children often, question why they were put up for adoption, and it can cause conflict in later years. My friend Brendai was adopted from an Island off of Japan and she personally has been struggling for the past couple of years with the fact that her birth mom abandoned her. I know it has caused problems with in her adoptive family. I know that some families like to adopt a certain ethnic child, many African American babies and young children are usually the last to be adopted all across the United States. Millions of people are unable to have children of their own. I know that some birth mothers have been known to want their children back, from the adopting family; for example, a case in Detroit a couple years ago, a birth mom came to take her baby from the adoptive parents, home. I have heard and seen that a lot of adopted children seem to have emotional problems as they become adults and adolescents. Adoption agencies stay with the families for a number of years to make sure everything is going well. I know that the cost of adopting international is extremely expensive. I just find adoptions fascinating; bringing a child in to your home who is not your biological child is absolutely wonderful. I especially love seeing when the families try to give that child all the love and affection they need. I think that I will adopt in my mid to late twenties, and finding out information right now will be an absolute help when that time comes.

People looking to adopt usually go through an adoption agency. What specifically do adoption agencies do to locate children. I want to what the minimum cost is that most families spend to adopting a child from over seas? To adopt there are rules; do adoptive families look up any of the international laws that pertain to them adopting from the country? There are verifications that need to be obtained. How much does a Visa Card cost? What are the requirements to obtain one? Families have to visit the child’s country a for certain amount of time. What is the specified time a family has to be in the country? Do families stay longer than required? Is it different stay periods for different countries? Do the parents feel that the child (ren) is/are adapting, to their new environment? Adopting a child overseas can cost thousands of dollars. How does someone know they can afford to adopt internationally? The child that is adopted is usually living in an orphanage. There are many countries that are open to adoption. Why does a family specifically choose that one country to adopt from?
