Ethical Perspective Paper

Introductions

Organizations have concerns that are focused on ethical leadership and ethical decision making. Ethical leadership and the importance of education have been highlighted in all most organization (Winston, M, 2007). The four key core values that have been formed as a basis for ethical decision making are C.O.R.E which is known as the character, obligation, results and equity which represents the way decisions are made from an ethical perspective. Each person has his or her own ethical perspective that are used one would use in making ethical decisions.

Obligation perspective

I have been identified as having the obligation perspective when making ethical decisions. The obligation perspective is known to base ethical perspectives on individual duty or obligation to do what is right. Ethical behavior is learn at a young age then what people should morally do would be apart of there conscience. To determine if people’s actions are ethical or not one would looks behind his or her actions and not the result of the actions. To be considered behaving ethically one would have to determine how they act and what rules they are willing to follow. From an obligation perspective “ethical principles must be: (a) appropriate under any circumstances (universalizable); (b) respectful of human dignity; and (c) committed to promoting individual freedom and autonomy” (University of Phoenix, 2004). The obligation perspective believes that all deserves respect so they would not be able to support societies as a whole’s best interest if individuals are denied the opportunities to which he or she is entitled as human beings. This perspective believes that within limits people should be allow to make choices of there own. One believes that personal growth is more important then efficiency achievements which allows one to create policies to ensure opportunities and respect equally. With this being said certain dilemmas are faced from an obligation perspective. One would be selecting people inappropriately. One would think is the right choice may not benefit the organization in the end. Another would be one would believe that the moral duty is to do what is right. One would find frustrations in how others determine right and wrong. In the Obligation perspective one ethical perspective may result in hardship economically.

Character Perspective

The character perspective ethical standards are based on how to be good, rather than how to do well. The belief is that the ethics should be based on achievements of moral excellence. Character is used to judge individual’s ethical actions not the action itself. Certain traits such as justice and honor used to determine the virtue in people. “In your opinion, mere compliance with rules, no matter how well-intentioned, does not make anyone an ethical person without being accompanied by consistent voluntary striving to be a morally good person” (University of Phoenix, 2004).Character perspective believe that people should be able to make moral judgment, to comply with principles of wrong or right is not enough to find solutions to ethical dilemmas, it relies on character. One would believe that people are not capable of choosing between what are right and wrong or conflicting rules, with out good character. Character perspective believes that individuals need to develop wisdom and integrity in order to practice ethical decision making. One becomes frustrated when realizing all do not carry the same values. This perspective believes that the process to develop character in individuals is a slow process and takes time. Being compliant with organizational policies is not needed in order to develop ethical character although most organizations rely on ethical rules. If appropriate moral guidance is not sort out throughout people’s lives colleague one works around may not understand this perspective.

Results Perspective

The results of ones actions or consequences, is the basis of the results ethical perspective. The greatest number of persons for the greatest good should direct conduct to promoting this. Concrete Evidence is how one determines whether individuals’ actions are ethical or not. The bottom line is what counts in ethical debates. The achievement and goal of ethics is for the good of society and should be consider more important than process and principles. One believes the good life is everyone’s moral right to experience which is measured by society satisfaction. Results perspective believes that most people should be happy and if they are not then morally one may have a problem, so the ethically goal is to improve peoples well being. One approach might be to develop rules of ethical conduct
