Essay title: Music

Music is part of everyday life and is heard by many listeners almost everywhere around the world. There are many different genres that classify the mechanics of music. Some of these genres can be identified as; easy listening, rap/hip-hop and classical. Onc type of genre that has many people jumping up and down for is rock. Rock has been known for head banging concerts, hardcore lyrics, and guitar solos. Two of the many genres that can be classified under rock are emo and metal. By comparing the lyrics, the vocal range and composition, the two genres can be broken down even further to be compared.

Emo music has an emotional side, as seen in the name, which most people can relate to. Metal usually tends to lead others away by the confusing sounds. Emo music uses lyrics that come from the heart. It is mostly written from experiences that have been relived through the music. Emo artists tend to use more emotional lyrics, whereas metal uses lyrics that are quite hard to comprehend. Metal can be described as the head banging music that mothers tend to hate. The lyrics are not clear and are mainly anger driven. It can be said that while listening to metal music it can tend to bring out only the anger emotion. Emo is a genre that most people can handle because it shows a softer side to rock music. Metal tends to lead others away by its anger, strength, and confusion.

The vocal sounds that are heard in music tend to be different because each artist has its own unique vocal talents. Because emo and metal both fall into the category of rock music, the vocals tend to be somewhat similar. Emo music shows a softer side of the rock genre than metal. Since the lyrics come from experiences of artists the vocal range tends to be expressed accordingly with the sense of emotion. For example, when there is a sad time in the song the sound tends to be quite and soft. Although emo can tend to be softer than metal, higher vocal ranges of screaming are also connected with the emotions of the artist. Emo music uses a vocal crescendo range and metal uses constant hard sounds that never fade to soft.
