Are You Man Enough?

Testosterone and Estrogen are known to be what makes us look like men and women, but there is a lot more to it then just that. Both hormones have a lot more to offer us. They affect more then just our outside appearance. They both have their goods and there bad as well. Each one has a positive way of affecting us, and a negative way. There are also some replacements that have a positive and negative affect on us as well. The definition of testosterone and Estrogen is a lot deeper then our perception.

Testosterone is white crystalline steroid hormone, C19H28O2, produced primarily in the testes and responsible for the development and maintenance of male secondary sex characteristics. It is known as a male hormone and is also produced synthetically for use in medical treatment. Estrogen is of several steroid hormones produced chiefly by the ovaries and responsible for promoting estrus and the development and maintenance of female secondary sex characteristics (Berger par 3). Your body produces chemicals called hormones that control how your body functions. Testosterone and estrogen are hormones that help our bodies mature physically. "We are born with it, but it is our genes that decide

Testosterone and estrogen can help our bodies with more then just our outside appearance. "Depressed patients receiving testosterone improve from severe depression to moderate depression," says Dr. Miller. Testosterone can help women with there mental health like, depression symptoms (Dr Johnson par 4). Testosterone can help women, but can estrogen help men? The answer is yes; Estrogen can help both male and female recover from strokes. (Berger par 4) "It looks like testosterone speeds up the recovery from a stroke," said Yi Pan MD PhD. "Estrogen looks like it really is protecting against cognitive decline." Said Dr. Yaffe. It is also proven that older women with higher estrogen levels are less likely to suffer cognitive decline (Berger 4). Not only do they both help with mental health but a good balance amount helps decrease the risks of stroke, heart disease, osteoporosis, uterine cancer, and increase good cholesterol (Durado par 2). Extra estrogen also helps women with Alzheimer after menopause (Swerdloff par 6). There are so many positive things that reflect on our minds and body from testosterone and estrogen, but with every good comes some bad.

The risks that come from taking steroids or having a lack continue to arise. When women use testosterone they may have some negative side affects. For example, a decrease in breast size, hoarseness or deeping of the voice, and unnatural hair growth or loss (Levine par 3). "Every year the lack of necessary hormones seem to be decreasing." Said Dr. Scapellie. 4 to 5 million American men have low testosterone. It also is

estimated that low testosterone affects about 1 in 10 men between the ages of 40-60 and more than 2 in 10 men over the age of 60 (Berger par 8). Low testosterone can be noticed

if you have a decrease in interest of sex, reduced lean body mass, depression, moody and fatigue (Berger 8). Low estrogen can increase the risk of breast cancer (Johansen par 9). Too much can induce the growth of prostate cancer cells. "Too much testosterone and estrogen does indeed help us in some cases, but it scales to be more dangerous then helpful." States Dr. Jaffery. "If you have low testosterone or estrogen, replacement prescribes drugs are best."

Replacement steroids have been being uses since some time ago. "Since the 1950's many athletes
