Brown Vs. Board of Education

Heaven

What comes to mind when you hear the word "Heaven"? Over time, it has taken on several meanings. Eventually, the word has become associated into songs by famous music artists to emphasize their feelings towards people they love. A song entitled "Heaven" was released in 1984 by a Canadian Rock artist by the name of Bryan Adams. It was first released in the UK along with his fourth album entitled "Reckless". A decade later, his influence on a European Trance artist, by the name of DJ Sammy has led to a re-release of an upbeat remix of the song. Though these two artists have different styles, they both demonstrate the same meaning for love by using the same lyrics, but with different tempos, instruments, and vocals.

Bryan Adams' original lyrics speak of how in his life there has only been him and his lady love. Having overcome adversity, he still returns for more love because she's the only one for him. Their love makes it seem as though "they're in heaven". Even though his musical interest was Rock, the song's tempo isn't moderately fast. It starts off slow and gradually speeds up a little, but only enough to show his desire for love. Adams makes it seem as though his yearning for this heavenly love is and will remain endless. The way the rhythmical tempo portrays the lyrics gives it a sense of purity. Even though the tempo may vary, the message remains in the lyrics.

DJ Sammy uses the original lyrics as does Bryan Adams. However, he transforms the tempo into something totally different than that of Bryan's. His version begins with immediate lyrics, unlike Bryan's version, and then booms into an energized thumping that makes listeners feel the urge to dance. Because young party goers enjoy dancing, the tempo of his mix makes it enjoyable to younger audiences. Being nearly twice the tempo of Bryan's, DJ Sammy's version of "Heaven" causes the blood vessels in the human body to pulsate and throb accordingly to its' fast pace. Not only do the tempos differ, but the instruments involved to represent each artist do as well.

Though love is a slow process, its' intensity rings like the strings of an electric guitar, yet remains as gentle as the notes of an electric keyboard. The original version of the song was written during the 1980's. During that time, these instruments were very popular. The melody that comes from the strings of the electric guitar is harmonized by the deep vibrations of an electric bass guitar. Hard beats from a set of drums in the background are like those of his undying heart. Due to advanced technology, the music industry also has and will continue to develop new instrumentals to produce sounds that are more preferable to modern society.

From the scratching noises of a turn table to computer generated sounds, music will be music. DJ Sammy's version of "Heaven" contains the original elements of instruments such as the drums, piano, and acoustic guitar, however, they're digitally altered. Repetitive chords resound throughout the song. After the song slows to a break or reaches a climax, a streaming drum roll follows to resemble a build-up of energy. In between parts, notes from an acoustic guitar can be faintly heard. Techno mechanisms have changed the song completely, yet the same results can affect the audience. The instruments resurrect the same meaning of love as does the original version. However, only because both versions maintain heavenly vocals that blend absolutely perfect with them..

Bryan Adams is well known for expressing his emotions with his lulling voice. His vocal ability to paint pictures with his words makes this song seem like a perfect reality. His scratchy voice leaves the audience love-struck, wanting to hear more. Every word that is released from his mouth is conceived from deep within his heart. The picture
