In this day and age, basically everyone has a cell phone. Contrary to popular belief, not only teenagers play a role in the promotion of cell phones. It starts young with children no older than toddlers reaching out to play with their mothers phone. On the complete opposite side of the spectrum, my grandfather has a nicer phone than I do and probably uses it just as much as me as well. Everyone uses them all the time. It has become normal. My mother tells me stories from way back in the ancient dinosaur days when to get ahold of someone you just showed up at their house. How were you supposed to know if they were home? If they weren’t home, how were you supposed to know when they would be back? You couldn’t know, and that baffled me. But, what awed me most was the fact that I couldn’t imagine what life would be like without cell phones. That scared me.

Researchers constantly warn us of the looming health conditions that can result from excess cell phone use. The bright screen and the small font is constantly straining your eyes, the device is loaded with germs, and the waves from the mobile device can cause cancer. Although these are important aspects, they’re not our greatest issue. The biggest concern that comes along with cell phone use is the addiction.There’s no doubt that people today are overly dependent on cell phones. We use them every minute of everyday. That blinding illuminated screen is the first thing we see in the morning and the last thing we see at night. The nonstop rings, dings, and vibrations control our lives. People can’t live without them. I don’t even like leaving my phone in my room for the twenty minutes it takes me to shower. I feel naked literally and figuratively. It’s a serious addiction. The fact of the matter is that we know this excess use is a problem, but we just keep pushing it to the side because we like it. We enjoy being constantly connected.
