" Then he would remind us that there was a brotherhood between people who feed from the same breast, a kinship that not even time could break.

Hassan and I feed from the same breasts. We took our first steps on the same lawn in the same yard. And, under the same roof, we spoke our first words."(p.12) Brothers, Hassan and Amir did everything together. For years they lived life not knowing they were brothers. Throughout the book Khaled Hosseini hinted that they may be brothers. There brotherhood was the underling story with in the tale of there friendship and envy.

The brotherhood of Amir and Hassan was hinted throughout the whole of the book. The reader would first suspect they were brothers on page 27 when the writer says, "Baba gave us each a weekly allowance of ten Afghanis and we spent it on warm Coca-Cola and rosewater ice cream topped with crushed pistachios."Hassan is only Baba's servant boy, why would he feel the need to buy nice things for him. This makes the reader wonder if they could possible be brothers because they fed from the same breast. "Ali was sterile... I'm thirty-eight years old and I just found out my whole life is one big fucking lie!"(Amir p.222-223) The readers thoughts about Amir and Hassan's brotherhood is confirmed in the end of this chapter. Amir is upset because for years he was envies of the way Baba treated Hassan as if he was a son, the son he always wanted Amir to be. So finding out that Hassan was his brother only confirmed his jealousy. Amir should realized he and Hassan where brothers when baba said, "Hassan's not going anywhere, he'd barked. He's staying right here with us, where he belongs. This is his home and we're his family."(p.225) Baba had previously said the stealing was the worst crime ever. If Hassan was not Amir's brother Baba would have kicked him as soon as he heard the news . May people in the United States go there whole life without knowing who there real parents and siblings are just like Hassan and Amir. With teenage pregnancies and abandon children
