Marriage Under Fire

Marriage under Fire

We must remember what marriage is for and why God has given it the design he did. Marriage is to be between a man and a woman. This goes back to the beginning of time and why God created woman in the first place; “to provide a helpful mate for Adam; it was not good that man should be alone” (Genesis 1:18, 20-23). So we see that marriage was God's idea, not men. Knowing this, why in the world would we as Americans give that right to homosexual couples? Marriage is a blessing the God gave to man. In society today, many individuals have forgotten the importance of marriage. People have the tendencies to marry anyone at anytime because they do not see the significance of marriage and God. America was founded by God and his beliefs. The United States screams God everywhere from currency to the Pledge of Allegiance. Thus meaning, why would the United States, a place of God, allow something morally wrong and sinful? Some would argue that homosexual marriage is a step in the right direction for human rights. They believe it is an act of freedom. This is wrong because homosexual matrimony is everything God stands against. Citizens today do not have the right to try and add or delete any scriptures in the Bible to help themselves. God made the Bible to guide people in the right direction. People need to read the bible in order to understand the word, not to change it. Accepting homosexual marriage would only hurt America. It is a major threat to the structure of families. The country should not take lightly the meaning of marriage and on a higher note try and take it away.

“Marriage is like a brand new car: once you take that car off of the car lot the value of it depreciates. Giving homosexuals the right to marry would depreciate the value of marriage and the pride it once carried will be no more. Not only does it do that, but more importantly it goes against God! We must preserve our values and morality for generations to come, for those children being born today and next year.”

The marriage between two people of the same sex is against Gods beliefs, a threat to the structure of families and a sin to mankind. With dedication and perseverance people who oppose gay marriages can succeed in ending the debate of making it legal.

One of the first things mentioned in the Bible is the idea of marriage and family. In Genesis 2:24, we read, “Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh” (KJV). The ordinance of family was established way before the government and the church. Looking at history and where homosexual marriages were and are accepted show individuals the devastating effect it has on a society. In the Bible there is a story about the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. Here they embraced homosexuality and in the end neither city survived because corruption took effect. In recent years, there have been sad outcomes also. Places such as Norway, Denmark and Sweden have had a rapid loss of marriage and traditional families which has hurt the economy. This shows that when you tamper with tradition you are destined for failure. The foundation of marriage is needed if morals and values want to be kept. Stability is gone without the strong hold of matrimony. Marriage is good for men, women and children when it is done correctly. Happier and healthier lives come from good relationships and good role models are needed for the children of the coming generations. Gods plan for everyone only brings accomplishment, while disobedience of God has shown only to bring forth disaster. Recently, Jeff Jacobly noted in the Boston globe,

“The adoption of same-sex marriages would topple a long standing system of shared values. It would change assumptions and expectations by which society has long operated- that man and women are not interchangeable, for example, and that the central reason for marriage is to provide children with mothers and fathers in a safe and loving environment.” Jacob continues, “My foreboding is that a generation after same-sex marriage is legalized, families will be even less stable than they are today, the divorce rate will be even higher and children will be even less safe. To express such a dire warning is to be labeled an alarmist, a reactionary, a bigot and worse…But it is not bigotry to try to learn from history or to point out that some institutions have stood the test of time because they are only ones that can stand the test of time.”

To save the future of generations to come we need to stand up for what’s right and stop the madness that is happening all around society.

It seems as we past from decade to decade, marriage has slowly lost its meaning and sacredness. One of the biggest mistakes to be made for marriages was in 1969.
