“This I Believe” Essay

I believe in being there for your parents when they need you the most. I believe that not everyone can handle death of their parent. I believe that even though there are other siblings in our family who were unable to handle it physically and emotionally, that this gave me the opportunity to help my parents when they needed it the most before death. As I was growing up my mom showed me morals and life lessons on how to raise children through running an In-home childcare. Because of what she has shown me I chose after I had children of my own to follow in her footsteps. So I chose in 2009 to start my own In-home Childcare. Then in 2010 my mom asked for me to join her and become partners with her in her business. Things that I thought I knew she showed me a better way, while working with her. Every family has someone who will give the time and support to those in the family who are in need of it.

The moment my mother got sick with cancer I knew my parents would need someone to help them. I have two siblings one is five years older than me. The other sibling is three years younger than me. My older brother, helping my parents thru the process of death would be too much for him to handle. My younger sister, has not had enough life experiences to know or understand how to help. So, I wouldn’t have wanted being able to help my parents any other way. Having those last few months with my mom was very much a blessing.

You know the everyday things that we can take for granted; like making your own lunch, getting up out of a chair, refilling your drink, walking down the wall, being able to use a knife to cut your food, remembering when you took your medicines last, being able to put a DVD in the DVD player and know how to. Being able to taking a shower on your own and without having to have someone in the shower with you, washing you. Those are things that are very easy everyday tasks that you can do. This is just a start of tasks that I helped my mother with on a daily, if not hourly basis.
