Veganism is a term to describe a diet without meat, dairy, honey, eggs or other animal products. Despite the health claims made about veganism, there has not been a reliable study proving that veganism is healthier than other diets. While it is possible to attain the sufficient amount of vitamins, proteins and other nutrients a person needs from a vegan diet, in reality, it is more difficult for vegans to maintain a balanced diet because of the limited resources. Many believe that veganism is associated with lower cholesterol, heart disease, blood pressure and even cancer rates. It also claims that it is better for the environment as it will reduce carbon footprint, is against animal cruelty, and most importantly, leads to a healthier lifestyle. Since vegans do not consume animal or dairy products, they get their proteins from black beans, tofu, soy milk, etc and calcium from broccoli, bok choy, kale, etc. Overall, veganism is a popular diet which is practiced by many today. Theoretically, it is a lifestyle that adequately fits and supplies individuals with their nutritional needs.
