Essay title: War

War

War is a major issue no matter where you go. Whether you are in America or in France there is always talk about war. Arguments are found in newspapers, magazines, and on television. Anti-war opinions run as high as pro-war opinions and often people are divided by their view on the subject. Justice often is compromised because of these arguments while feelings are often put to the test. Some say war separates a nation while others say it can unite a nation. War is often justified by a nation’s leader but is war really justified and is war really necessary? What ever the opinion or theory may be about war one thing is always true. War brings out the best and worst in people.

War is by definition the waging of armed conflict against and enemy; a widespread of conflict between two entities; a concerted campaign to end something that is injurious. While the definition of war is quite clear, the reasons for war aren’t always as clear. War is not something that any nation rushes into and as always there will be a difference of opinion as to deciding whether or not war is necessary at the time. There are always opposing arguments to everything and such is the case with war.

Some people are pro-war who support the war and some people are anti-war which don’t support the war at all and try to protest against it. For example the War in Iraq today has some people supporting the war and doing all that they can do to help it out. Others don’t support the war and believe that lives are being lost for no reason. The war today is one of the most talked about subjects because the exact reasons for going to war aren’t as clear as in other wars such as World War II.

The Church always is concerned with many issues in the world today and one that is most common is war. Although some might say that church and state should be separate, the church has a right to have an opinion. The church believes that war is wrong and is morally unjust. The church sees war as a last resort and in most cases not even an option. Only if war is absolutely necessary can it be used and is called a “Just War” which is a war that can only be waged with certain circumstances. If a nation has been attacked, war is a last resort, there is a proportion of the harm caused and the violence released by war, and there are limits to the use of force such as the weapons used just war can be waged. The church believes in the Just war theory but only as a last resort and as something that cannot be avoided.

The church’s main viewpoint is anti-war because the church believes in non-violent acts to resolve issues and conflicts. In the Bible it says to love your neighbor as yourself so waging war on other nations is like waging war on a neighbor. The church although anti-war supports President Bush not because of his decision
