My Goals

Career Goals

My career goal is to work in a correctional facility that concentrates on the rehabilitation of drug addicts and those with mental disorders.  My dream is to work with people who have lost themselves while walking on the path of life.  I know that this field is a difficult field, but I am passionate about helping those that have been given up on by society.

I have found that I’ve always wanted to help those who cannot help themselves.  Whether it be those who are physically sick or those who are fighting inner deammon’s.  Throughout my life, I have nursed many family members back to physical health due to life threatening illnesses.  While doing so, I never knew the emotional impact it had on not only them, but our loved ones around us.  It wasn’t until years had passed that I discovered how the mind could work against us and I was absolutely blown away.

I was able to put what I thought was skills that everyone possessed to the test and learned that I indeed had a true skill that would benefit other’s.  I did some volunteer  work at a local correctional institute to help tutor women who had a simple dream of getting their G.E.D.  During my time there, I was able to get on a personal level with a few of the inmates and hear their stories.  It was at that time, I discovered that I could have been one of these women.  They had tragic things happen in their lives and didn’t have the skills to cope so instead they turned to drugs.  Time after time, story after story, they all seemed to be the same.

Hearing the stories, giving advice, and asking more and more questions from these women, lit something inside of me.  I wanted answers, knowledge, and the ability to help more people like the “criminals” I was surrounded by.  I started asking questions of the clinical staff and started doing research.  That’s when I discovered that I wanted to go into Psychology.

I want to achieve my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology.  I have set small goals and one being to not just pass my classes, but to excel in them.  I know in achieving my degree it will open many doors into a world I long to be in.  I want to be able to help those who want to be helped, give them the tools that they have lost along their way and in order to do that, I have to relearn those skills myself.
