SYSTEM APPROACH

The system approach views it organization as a social systems, where is must use interaction with the environments in order to thrive and survive. This method does not view the organization as self-sufficient and self-contained machine, but rather the people and department makes as the whole organization, with an interactive nature and an additional interdependence of internal/external factor. Katz D and Khan R L adopted the approach of open-systems, where it identifies the repeated cycles of input, output and throughput and also the feedback within an organization including the internal/external environment. This method usually evaluates the elements of what will affect the profability of an organization and analyzes problems by identifying the forces the makes or breaks business.  

        The most basic level of the system processes is by the input-throughout-output process. The exhange of both output and input is very apparent within the process as they will determine the success of a product. Input such as information or resources are being input from the environment. By the throughput, the input will be processed internally, and will release the outputs into the environment. This attempt is being set up in order to restore the balance to the environment. A system can either be open or closed, but with an open system, there will be more exchanging of information, resources, energy from the environment. An open system is a more healthier option as these systems are responsive towards changes while close systems are introverted towards the changes.

        Another process is through the feedback, where it is a critical throughput of the organizational function. Feedback helps to facilitate the interdependent components for a system to act as one. There are two types of feedbacks: negative and positive feedbacks. A negative feedback or deviation-reducing feedback, helps to maintain the system to have a steady function. One example is that when a cafe worker were to announce the wrong time for their opening and closing hours on social media. The head of the department will inform of the workers mistakes of their errors so he can deliver the message out to their customers. This is considered as a corrective feedback that works as functioning organizati to keep a steady course. A positive feedback, or deviation-amplifying feedback, is information presented to the system in order to produce growth and also development. This feedback is aimed to cause a major change to the entire system so they are able to balance a steady state. For example, a cafe manager noticed that the customers were bored with the environment when they dine in. The manager is able to suggest to the higher management of the establishment to add in a free wi-fi usage to entertain the customers while they wair for their food or friends.

        The main components of the system approach is divided into three: hierachical ordering, interdependence and permeability. Hierachical ordering is a complex arrangements, which includes subsystems and supersystems as a hierachical order. This is more of a straightforward arrangements of authority presented in an organizational chart. All businesses or organizations starts from the top down towards the bottom, where it is made up of smaller subsystems and also larger supersystem. Subsystems are composed of small work individual and groups such as kitchen, food storage, wet kitchen and many more. Supersystems are of a bigger organization such as canteen, cafeteria, fine dining restaurants and coffeehouse. Interdependence is when there is reliability within the system one components to another. All the components in a business is interdependent to one another or else the business as a whole would not function effectively. For instance, a restaurant relies on the manager to bring in the food and other utencils, in which the manager relies on a supplier to bring all of their supplies to their place. The manager relies on the waiters and chefs to make use of the supplies to make as an output for the restaurant to function. A business will not survive without the reliance of active assistance from other system parts. Permeability is boundaries which were set up in order for information and resources to flow in and out. The permeability of different organizations are different, but it is either open or close systems. The system as a whole must be able to be permeable in order to survive, but being either a highly open or close system can also be a negative output. A simple example is when a restaurant is too dependent on their sponsors, that they will only oblige to what they sponsors can only offer to them. They may not be able to try anything new or limitations are always up due to  what the sponsors wants.
