Student Survival Guide

I have a pretty comprehensible idea of what is to be expected in my enrolled online program at Axia College. Just in case I forget, I will compile a survival guide for myself to serve me through it. When I first started, sure, it was tough. It was all unique to me. I did not know what to expect in this new program I set out on, but with familiarity, you can coast through anything with an enhanced understanding.

Take, for example, course essays you will have to compose. You will need information, quotes, facts, data, etc. to craft a successful paper. There are lots of places you could find information, but are all reliable? Of course not, that is why searching is so crucial. You have two options, from my perspective: regular Internet searches, and searches on Axia’s online library.

Let us take on Internet searches first. Say you go to a common Internet search engine like Google, for instance. Type in words or phrases you would like to be looked up. You can expect you will receive tons of results. Try narrowing down your searches by putting words in parentheses which you want to be incorporated, or by putting a minus sign in front of words you don’t desire in your results. As an example, let us say that you want to search about fireworks safety, but you do not want to have any information regarding holidays. You would type: “firework safety” -holiday’. Also, try to find reputable sites, and not ones that can be edited by anybody. Wikipedia is a site you would not want to acquire information from.

As for Axia’s library, searching there is not hard either. This is what I do when I want to perform a common search. Access the library, and then click on “Article Databases – Major.” Inside here you’ll have three choice databases to look for information. Don’t worry; they’re all great and trustworthy, so search around all of them if you like. Next, just enter into the database you wish to explore through and begin! It is really simple, so it should not be difficult for anyone to get the hang of.

Of course you could write any old thing in your paper, but how honest would that be? Academic honesty is a major part of the online college experience and it should be upheld with every intention of your being. If one decides to copy something down without a citation, they would be essentially stealing another’s work. It might be the cheap way out, but it should never be done or be done as a last resort. Not only that, but there are other ways to uphold your academic honesty. You should not get others to do your work either. That is by far the most dishonest thing you could do. Just be honest in class to your teacher and fellow classmates, and everything will be just fine.

Now that we know what to do when searching and what not to do, let us look at how we should merge them together to create effective study habit skills. When assignments are given, one must give their best to submit acceptable answers, etc. Say that we have a discussion question day. I suggest that everyone should set aside at least a dedicated half hour. Read the question(s) asked and reflect about it carefully. What do you really think and feel about the issue at hand? Respond when you are ready to share your thoughts. After posting, look at other students’ responses to the same question. If you think one student has an interesting answer, respond to them with what you think and something that would add to
