Part 1:
Possible causes of George’s depression could be because of a lack of sleep, poor eating habits, stress, or drugs. George’s depression could be treated with a psychodynamic approach by having him visit a therapist periodically and having an intense, open-ended exploration of his feelings. Humanistically, it could be treated by having him visit a therapist and explore how he feels in the here and now, rather than trying to identify past events that led to these feelings. It could be treated with a behavioral approach by figuring out some of George’s certain unhealthy or self-destructive behaviors, and how to change them. A cognitive approach would be by learning to substitute negative thoughts with healthy thoughts, which will improve his mood, self-concept, behavior, and physical state. Biomedically, he could be treated by prescribing him antidepressants, such as Zoloft.
